Fall Puppetry Series

Nature Links is so lucky to be joined this fall by a very special guest teacher. Educator, director, puppet maker and puppeteer extraordinaire Peter Court joins us for a six week series this fall. Peter teaches theater arts and performance from his studio in Durban, South Africa and will be joining us via Zoom to bridge the more than 8,000 mile gap between us. In South Africa, Peter runs Creative Madness Ltd., an award-winning company with international experience in theatre, puppetry and education. Creative Madness creates tailor-made productions for non-profits, businesses and schools, as well as responsive and adaptive curriculum to teach through puppetry. Peter is a gifted teacher who captures the attention of his students through his kindness, whimsy, creativity and puppetry genius.

Educator, director and artist Peter Court will join us virtually from South Africa

In our weekly classes with Peter, we’ll be learning about the power of puppetry to communicate important messages (even without words) and we’ll analyze various puppets Peter has made for past productions. Peter will guide through basic puppet-building strategies and skills, including education on how to use common household tools safely. Peter will then work with Nature Links participants in creating their own puppets made from household materials such as plastic bottles, foil, chopsticks, cardboard and anything else that otherwise may end up in the trash. How’s that for a clever way to recycle! Finally, we'll finish our series off with a puppetry performance led by Nature Links participants.

There’s so many reasons to be excited about this upcoming series. Nature Links participants will have a chance to get creative, work with a highly skilled artist and incorporate their love of the natural world into their work. Plus, we’ll be taking items otherwise destined for landfills to create complex characters with stories to tell and lessons to teach. Check back soon as we post photos of students’ work. In the meantime, we’ll be busy building our puppets!
